2010 SCCA WOR Games
The last hurrah of the season under sunny skies & cool autumn temperatures saw the SCCA Western Ohio region, successfully hosting an eight hour endurance race at the Mid-Ohio race circuit.
The field of 10 started to race for a planned eight hours & during the first hour the Honda America Racing Team 1 (HART1) Honda Accord with Michael Galati driving, was the car to beat. At the end of the first hour, the HART1 team led with 34 laps & had set the fastest time of the day.
Following them was High Street racing’s Acura Integra Type R & the Colletti Motorsport’s RSX Type S with Car & Driver editor Tony Swan at the wheel.
The HART2 Honda Civic developed a misfire during the first hour, as did the SRT-4 of Doyle Racing. The Toyota Supra of JP Racing broke a front hub & temporarily retired to the paddock for repairs.
The JP Racing team then drove all over Columbus to locate a replacement hub. Hour five saw returned to the track during hour five.
Hour two saw 54 laps completed plus the HART2 Honda Civic had to retire. The sister car HART1 Honda Accord hit problems having reached the 60 lap mark.
The Colletti Motorsports RSX had power steering problems during hour three. This cost them five laps to repair. The lead was then passed to the High Street Integra. Now we had a three horse race between the Integra, the Spec Racer Ford of Crowned Eagle Racing & the Colletti RSX.
At the finish, it was the High Street Integra with 226 laps, the Crowned Eagle SRF with 224 laps & the Colletti RSX with 223 laps.
The two Miata entrants had a trouble free race. Waterford’s Greatest Miata of MW Motorsports completed 198 laps. Rounding out the field in sixth place was the Colletti Motorsports’ Integra. They suffered a broken hub in hour six with Greg Vandersluis at the wheel. Greg was able to nurse the car back to the pits without further damage to the front end.
The Colletti crew returned the car to the race after 10 laps of impressive repair work.
The final pit lane closure saw team, crews & volunteers line the pit lane wall as the checkered flag was waved, to hoot & holler the 8 hour’ runners home. The loudest shout going to the SRT-4 team, who were suffering from a fuel starvation issue, once their driver passed the checker to finish & qualify.
